A beautifully written, simply told tale of a man who has lived a long and full life who suddenly finds himself transporting a young girl 400 miles through the wilds of Texas in 1870. She was kidnapped and her parents murdered by the Kiowa tribe, and she is now to be sent back to relatives. The tale of their relationship through those miles and his reflections in his life was just so well written. It took a bit to get started, but the book is quite short and once the characters were on the move I could not put the book down.
