Puppy Mind
by Jim Durk, Andrew Jordan Nance
Kids have minds that wander. If you talk to teachers, they can tell you about the kids who can not sit still or pay attention. This books equates a kid’s wandering mind to the actions of a puppy. If you do not watch it closely it will bolt for the door. It reminds kids that like when dealing with a puppy, you need to stop and take three deep breaths and begin again. I like the message of this book but find many of the rhymes harsh. Or maybe it wasn’t intended to rhyme which is why occasionally it doesn’t. I think kids will like the illustrations because it looks like a Saturday morning cartoon.
