Brown identifies important aspects concerning society and shame, how some patterns of modern society perpetuate it, and most importantly, how to identify shame and what we can do. Vulnerability is counter-cultural in many ways, and I am curious how a book like this would be received in other cultures, especially the far east.
It becomes clear as you read that Brown is a Christian, but I feel like she does a good job not being too Jesus-y...and I enjoy her frequent use of "horseshit". ;)
I would recommend this book to anyone. If you're curious about the book, I'd check out her TED talks first--she's one of the top 10 or so, at the point of publishing anyway. I'm looking forward to reading her other books and am thankful that she's taken the time to do this research. Also, I really hope to meet this lady someday, because she's my long-lost twin. ;)
Remember--you are enough. <3
EDIT 2015: I have since heard Brene speak, and she is just as awesome in real life as in her writing.
