Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer
4.0

I'm definitely glad I finally got around to reading this book. It made me laugh plus was entertaining. I really enjoyed the characters of Holly, Mulch, Foaly, Root, and Juliet from pretty early on. Though 100% my absolute favorite is Holly. I'd just love to read so much more of her. The People were really interesting and I liked the creativity of the worldbuilding tied to them.

It took me awhile to really like Artemis and Butler - that happened more near the middle to end. Butler's concern about his sister, Juliet, was touching. I did certainly feel bad for Artemis given what we learn in regards to his parents and it was a certain action near the end that actually made me really like him. It's also what sold me on giving this a 4 star vs a 3 star rating. Otherwise, I feel as though Artemis comes off quite reckless and uncaring during certain events during the story. . .

And gets off without really learning anything or there being any real consequences especially given he put others lives at great risk. This is also evident where something happens to Butler only for Artemis to not really react to it. This could partially be due to the author seeming to gloss over it in the writing, but I feel like for Artemis as a character it would've been good to linger on it a bit more.
