After reading this book 1, I strongly suspect that I am going to end up a huge fan of the Stormlight Archive. The book is compelling to read, with interesting characters and great worldbuilding. I previously enjoyed Sanderson's writing style in Warbreaker, and I loved it here just as much.

What frustrated me somewhat about The Way of Kings, and stopped it from getting a higher rating, is that it felt like a 1,008 page novel comprised entirely of build up, with the actual plot maybe due to start in book 2.  Epic fantasy quite often starts slow, but here it was about 800 pages before I felt the pace start to pick up. For much of the book, even though I was enjoying it I was quite happy to put it down for a while and read or do other things; by the time it really hooked me it was near the end - doubly frustrating as now I am properly gripped by the story, it's no use because I don't yet have book 2 to move onto!
