Bakuman is a manga about two ambitious high school students who want to become manga artists. This story was created by two authors who know the business inside and out: the same team who created the wildly successful series Death Note. In Bakuman, Moritaka Mashiro and Akito Takagi team up with the goal of creating a story popular enough to be serialized in Shonen Jump and adapted into an anime before they turn 18. The reason for this deadline is a somewhat silly romantic promise Moritaka has made to the girl he loves, who also has a dream- to become a popular voice actress. Teen romance aside, this is a really smart series with a lot of actual, solid information about the Japanese manga industry.
