Goddess in the Machine by Lora Beth Johnson
4.0

Goddess Machine is about a teenage girl named Andra who was supposed to wake on a new planet named Holymyth 100 years after being put into cryonic sleep. However, she wakes up 1000 years later by a bastard prince. When she awakes people keep calling her goddess even though she really isn’t. Everyone is suspecting her to perform a miracle and save humanity since it is failing. Can she do it? Also, what does the bastard prince, Zhade want from Andra. Could they both use one another to save one another?
First of all, I love this cover. I have the Owlcrate edition and feels like it gives desert vibes, which is perfect because a part of the book takes place in the desert.
I really loved all the twists and turns in Goddess in the Machine. A lot of the twists I did not see coming and some made me gasp out loud. The growth we see Andra go through is great. She starts out as this scared teenager and morphs into this person who owns what she is supposed to be. Zhade was an interesting character and a great love interest for Andra. Zhade had a lot of funny one liners due to him not necessarily understanding Andra’s speech. I really loved the friendship between Andra and Lew as well as Zhade and Lew.
The things I didn’t like was the speech. Yes, it was unique and made the story really unique, which I liked. But, I didn’t like it a bit because at some points it was hard to understand/comprehend, at least for me. Then, I felt like Andra was very forgiving of Zhade.
Overall, I recommend this to anyone.
