Dash & Lily's Book of Dares
by Rachel Cohn, David Levithan
I loved the concept of this story and while it started off strong, I felt that it dragged towards the end.
Dash finds a journal in a bookstore that has a list of dares in it. Once he completes the dares he then leaves the journal for whoever left it for him with their own dares. I loved the dares and seeing what Dash and Lily would come up with next. Once they finally met though, I just wanted the story to end, but it didn’t which caused this book to be a little longer than it needed to be.
I was glad this was told in alternating chapters between Dash and Lily’s perspectives. However, I listened to the audiobook, and wish I hadn’t. Tara Sands, who narrates Lily’s character, got on my nerves. I could not handle her voice. I get that she was reading the part of an angsty teenager, but she made her seem shrill and whiny. It made it hard to actually like her character.
Overall, this was a cute holiday YA story. I’m not sure that I’ll continue the series, but if I do I will read the actual book instead of listening to it on audio.
