So You Want to Talk About Race
by Ijeoma Oluo
Some time ago, I asked people for book suggestions to help me better understand how to speak to my son about racism. In particular, I was looking for books that could help explain all the ways racism is normalised, minimised, and overlooked by well-meaning white people (🙋🏼♀️) and how they (we) continue to perpetuate and benefit from institutional and systemic racism.
Someone recommended 'So You Want To Talk About Race' by Ijeoma Oluo. I started it one morning and finished it in two sittings.
It was such an uncomfortable, eye-opening, insightful, and brilliant read.
The examples and statistics are very much based on the United States, but the underlying points are universal.
I highly recommend this book to everyone!
