Unequal Affections is a retelling of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. The novel starts just after Mr Darcy's insulting 1st proposal to Elizabeth Bennett. However, in Ormiston's retelling, Lizzy accepts Mr Darcy's offer of marriage before he becomes "humbled".

This is such a creative and intriguing "what if" novel. Ormiston writes beautifully and convincingly writes the P&P characters. At times the characters' speeches can feel a bit too modern. It wasn't as witty as the original Austen work (which, to be fair, is difficult to achieve). However, it was a thoroughly good read.

This is a wonderful book. It's definitely one that fans of Pride and Prejudice should give a go. I certainly hope that Ormiston writes more in the future.
