City of Girls
by Elizabeth Gilbert
“Welcome to New York, it’s been waiting for you!”Okay, I’m done singing Taylor Swift, now onto the review. Vivian has just been kicked out of college in the 1940’s and her parents are disappointed in her. At the age of nineteen, she is shipped off to New York to live with her Aunt Peg. There she is introduced to the theater scene and is sewing costumes for them. She is introduced to booze, sex, and the city life. Will it all come back and bite her in the butt with a scandal?
This book follows the life of Vivian and how she knows Angela’s father. I picked this up because the storyline kind of reminded me of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. So, I had to read it. I really enjoyed it and enjoyed seeing how Vivian’s life played out. It did have a lot of sex in it, but it was just Vivian exploring her sexuality. I did feel like this book was longer than it should have been.
