Kiss Her Once for Me
by Alison Cochrun
Okay so this book has gotten some mixed reviews but I enjoyed it. Yes, the plot is absurd and the characters are a little basic but I was interested early on. This was another single POV romance, which isn’t my favorite but it worked well for the plot. I am not the hugest fan of the miscommunication trope though, which is a huge part of this book. Besides that, it's a good read.
I enjoyed how the main character’s anxiety was portrayed throughout the book and felt it was super consistent, which is often a gripe I have with anxiety in characters. It didn’t just magically disappear one day. You saw Ellie have to put in the work to see changes start to happen. And I found myself second-hand cringing at the situation she got herself into but in an okay way.
The plot was absurd, yes, but, again in an okay way. This would never happen but that’s the fun of it. It didn’t take me out of the story at all, which was another reason I finished it in like two days I think? But the supporting character and love interest, unfortunately, fell flat for me. Just a little overdone and not super interesting. Which played a lot into the meh miscommunications throughout the book. I found myself screaming, “JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER!” multiple times, which was fun at first but quickly got annoying.
All in all, I wouldn’t go out of my way for this book but I know when the holidays roll around I’ll want to give it another read and I do recommend it overall. Happy reading!
