This book is a valuable exploration on marriage and commitment, written by a divorced person. I purchased this book just a few years into what would become a 12-year marriage. At that time, I found the book hard to settle into. Reading it about 2 years after my divorce, I have found this book to be deep, thoughtful, engaged, and honest. Gilbert is still at times guilty of the same kind of Amerocentric language she's been critiqued for in the past, but if you can move past that, the book is delightful, easy, and insightful. I do question if it could be as valuable to readers who have not yet experienced long marriages, but admittedly, it challenged me to stay open to the possibility of marrying again, despite its real, honest critiques of the practice.
