Oh my goodness, this book had me wrapped around it's finger. Margaret Rogerson's novel had me laughing out loud, gasping in horror, and fervently reading late into the night!
Sorcery of Thorns hit all the right notes for me. A brave and stubborn FMC, a rakish, dark-haired sorcerer (with bi-wife energy? YESSSS), and a silent but earnest demon? Yes, yes, and yes!
Elisabeth Scrivener has always known magic is evil. She's been raised in one of the Great Libraries, guarding one of sorcery's greatest tools - grimoires. These books are alive and contain powerful magic that can be deadly in the wrong hands. And if provoked, can turn into monstrous creatures made of ink and leather.
One night, Elisabeth finds herself in the midst of a mysterious sabotage that unleashes one of the library's most dangerous grimoire. Despite her bravery and quick thinking that saves the nearby village, she is implicated in the crime and swept away to the capital for judgement. With no one else to turn to, she must rely on her sworn enemy Nathaniel Thorn, and his mysterious demon servant, Silas. Elisabeth's world has been turned upside down, and she may just have to re-evaluate everything she thought she knew if she's going to solve the centuries-old conspiracy unraveling around her. Oh, and the potential end of the world!
This is a fantastic read, and I'm thrilled to find out the author will be releasing a novella continuing these beloved character's stories at the beginning of next year! It can't come soon enough.
