Hornby has some really biting one-liners, and this book is funny in a bitter way. But it's hard to muster up any care at all for such a useless deadbeat protagonist. I think this would have been more enjoyable if I were a middle-aged, directionless, bumbler in the mid-nineties, but I think this book's relevance has passed.
