Sinjin by H.P. Mallory
2.0

This was just okay for me. I read hoping to grow to like the character of Sinjin more (as I was not impressed with him or even understood why he would be a romance interest for Jolie from when I read Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble) but I was still left feeling "eh" about him. It also is one of those where you kind of have to read the Jolie Wilkins series first to understand what is going on or know about the characters and out of Jolie and Dulcie I much prefer the Dulcie series (mainly for the Sinjin factor). While there was a sisterly relationship between Bryn and Jolie there was also the continued reference to how they were also "enemies" and no real development of them hanging out as sisters. That may have been done in the other Jolie books but still it feel short. And sex (or rather allusions to it) drove a lot of the story. Not a prude by any means but I do like a little substance as well and I felt there wasn't a lot of meat here.

It ended on a cliffhanger which to me was a bit expected especially as I got towards the end, but reading the comments from the next one I'm not sure I want to read it. It's not just the subject matter but that all reviewers have mentioned that it is startlingly short, and the cliffhanger aspect is just as bad. Plus while I don't hate them I'm not really in love with any of these characters.

A quick easy read and if you like Sinjin it should be enjoyable. I don't dislike him as much as I did from the first Jolie book but I still don't consider him swoon-worthy.
