Midnight Horizon
by Daniel José Older
A "just okay" addition to the high republic. Very much a book of 2 halves. The first half I found it a bit of a chore to read. It felt like some characters had regressed from previous books. The second half of the book was a solid 4.5 stars. I wish there were a bit more resolution at the end seeing how the next phase takes place 150 years before the great disaster.
I was a huge fan of the flashback scenes, but now how they were written into the story. It felt unnatural to the flow of the book, and I feel like there were way more natural ways to incorporate those flash backs.
Overall I'd give it 3.25 stars. Not great. Not bad. Just okay
