I'm not a big Deadpool fan.
I like the movies. I mostly like them because Ryan Reynolds is a funny dude. He easily made a character I normally have no interest in, amazing. It helped it was rated R, in the sense, you can show off the full line of jokes while also getting that crazy high-end action.
This is a huge Omnibus, going a little past 1300 pages, and it ranges from good, with a few moments of great for me. The biggest balance for the character is finding his humous side while also giving us some emotional beats. This series does tend to do that at points, even if it isn't perfect.
The start of this series relies heavily on humor. It's not bad but in comparison to the movies, it seems tame. A foul mouth deadpool is not here. Luckily the art saves it because the fight scenes are excellent, high energy, and bloody as hell. As the series goes on we get a much more human Wade, going into something horrible in his past, and now he has to deal with the mess he made.
On top of that I really did enjoy the ending humor. It was far better, and Duggan seemed to get the hang of the foul mouth Deadpool more.
But it does suffer from no major villains that are interesting. I also found too many characters too talkative without anything important to say or even funny. I drifted some pages because honestly got bored at spots.
But overall, even for a person who was NOT a fan of Deadpool I did enjoy my time reading this. Would I say it is mindblowingly awesome? No. But it was fun for what it was with some really great moments here and there.
A 3.5 out of 5.
