This book started off strong for me, with Mare, a Red Blood, finding out she has the same powers as one of the elite Silver Bloods. I liked the world and the blossoming love story between Mare and her three suitors (yes! Three! I thought that was a bit overkill). But while reading, I felt as if the book was taking many turns for the generic. It started becoming very predictable and cloyingly young YA. Mare was not strong, as she seemed in the beginning. If anything, she acted younger than her age of 18. The first person narrative actually harmed this novel, making it hard to read at times. I would have preferred to not hear Mare's confused thoughts, especially when it came to Cal, Maven, and Kilorn. I wanted to continue this series but I'm not so sure.
