The Spare Room
by Andrea Bartz
Mini Audiobook Review: Thank you to PRH Audio for the complimentary copy!
I am probably in a small minority of readers who enjoyed Andrea Bartz's 2021 thriller We Were Never Here so I was excited when I had access to her next one. I definitely enjoyed this one much more than that one!
I had no clue where this book was going and whenever I thought it was wrapping up I still had so much time left. The book is not very long but I felt like there was so much jammed back in it that we either needed to focus on certain parts more or eliminate unnecessary sections. I wish we got more into Kelly's relationship with her fiance Mike and to more why Kelly was fascinated by Sabrina's life.
Just a warning, this does take place during pandemic time. It did not bother me nor was it a huge plot point with the exception of them being in a lock down and taking precautions in that first spring/summer of 2020.
The sexual relationships that occur was one that I was not expecting and actually thought this was going to be more about an obsessed fan. I think we could've even dove further down their sexual escapades.
This book gives you a mix of what makes a thriller great including an unreliable narrator but also a bit of romance. This could even be classified as a romance suspense as opposed to just thriller. Overall I really enjoyed this & kept wanting to find out what was going to happen next.
I read this book via audio and I thought the narrator was excellent. Brittany Pressley has become one of my favorite narrators and she just brings so much to each of her characters and really brought Kelly to life.
If you enjoy any of the above I mentioned, then definitely check this out!
