The Last Unicorn
by Peter S. Beagle
So pretty.
I loved the book. It works very well both as a fairy tale _and_ as a commentary on fairy tales (I'd expect one to work and the other not) and society and oh, I don't know, everything.
I loved the unicorn's voice. Every time we're in her head, it's like being transported somewhere and somewhen else. Her thoughts are not like ours, and it's beautiful.
The Bull!
The writing was fantastic. Incredible turns of phrase that I know must've been agonized over, but that didn't feel forced, as they sometimes do.
My only complaint would be that I found the start to be a bit stronger than the finish, since, but now that I write that, maybe that's part of the point as well. If we assume so, then it works, darn it.
Read it. Read it again.
