I love Ilya and Shane so damn much I'm going to have the worst hangover from this duo! I reread HR three times in as many weeks then finally read TLG and I have too many feelings. This book was everything and I adored the deeper look at Ilya and Shanes issues both. I also really loved the way Rachel managed to show in depth partners having arguments/fights but still being in love the entire time, wanting everything for their partner but struggling together to make it work was sublime. I also appreciate her not going with a third act breakup as so many novels do, this was both more realistic and much more interesting to read.
Minor issue with the pacing - the final quarter where the big issues are dealt with happened too quickly, I wanted more fallout and resolution.
Related minor issue - some lines were not dealt with enough. Not only the fallout, how Shane dealt with his team of a decade (!!) hating him, how the commissioner acted, how the fans reacted, how other players acted, etc but also smaller lines like does Ilya ever think to bring Shane in on his counselling? Where is the resolution to Shane's dieting issue? His control issue? It goes nowhere. Also want more from the end, I would have liked to see their honeymoon and first outings to a club, first date etc. Not to mention their first game together, or their first season. Perhaps there is more opening for a third book because I and most other readers from what I have seen would eat another book up so damn fast! One can hold out hope.
I feel like a lot of my minor complaints also would have been applicable to HR and where Shane and Ilya left off there so that gives me a small measure of hope!
