As it’s YA, I allow for some juvenile writing—but this novel isn’t as full of it as some. It weaves a complex enough tale to raise curiosity and pique interest, dropping hints and laying clues and setting traps and trails that twist the mind in circles and braids until the big reveal at the finish. 

Well, it was a bit obvious with all the diversions and the planted innocents; the author sets up enough red herrings to distract us from seeing clearly amid the fog.

The main character is a teenager and the author does well to speak genuinely through the teenage experience, an intelligent, nerdy and reserved teenager, but authentic.

The ending was slightly disappointing. I could see where it was going, but I was still holding out hope that my suspicions would be thwarted.

I’ll read the rest of this series. Definitely holds your attention and moves along at a good pace.
