The Girl in the Ice is a great book to start off a new series about DCI Foster. She's a strong copper, smart copper who stops at nothing when she's on a roll. Like a bull at a gate she kept ploughing away at this case even with all the things holding her back.
Erika is a great character and one that you instantly side with throughout the novel. Moss and Peterson were great secondary characters, as I suppose, was Marsh, even though at times I really didn't like him. It will be great to see them re-appear in the next DCI Foster book. Especially Moss, her character was quite funny at times and very loyal.
Theres a lot of twists and turns in this novel, and one moment you're thinking one thing, and then another something flies out of nowhere and makes you think another. The killer who it turned out to be in the end, was someone I had earlier dismissed as being the killer they were looking for.
Towards the end there are even more things jumping out, particularly one particular witness who has quite the interesting and revealing story. From here things really spiral and the discoveries begin to pick up. Lots of action in this one, and I think this will become a popular series. I will be interested to read the next one.
