A Monster Calls
by Patrick Ness
A monster calls was nothing like I expected. It has a sweet almost fairy tale feeling, but at the same time captures a child's deep agony so well with a little magical realism thrown in. I don't want to give too much of it away because none of the child's life is in the summary, but I'll just leave it as this -- A Monster Calls made me cry more than any book has in such a long time. I could identify with every single person in the situation, and I understood why everyone reacted the way they did to all circumstances, but that's what made it the most sad.
I blew through this entire book in a day it was just so good. I couldn't stop reading, it was just so captivating. It was light and heavy, agnozing and joyful, magical and real. It truly was everything I didn't know I was looking for, and it truly touched my heart.
