The Prince and the Dressmaker was a delightful graphic novel. The story follows Prince Sebastian and his personal seamstress Frances. By day Sebastian is bogged down by his courtly duties and finding a bride. But, by night he traverses the town in beautiful ball gowns made by Frances as his stunning alter ego Lady Crystallia.

A true standout of this story for me was Jen Wang's beautiful art. Her style is bouncy, vibrant and filled with wonderful warm colours. My absolute favourite aspect of this reading experience was basking the gorgeous dresses designed for Lady Crystallia. They were all inventive and a sight to behold.

The story itself was simple and sweet. With themes of accepting yourself and not hiding who you are it's perfect for a younger demographic. While the story beats were predictable Wang executed the arc perfectly.

I would say my only minor gripe with this story was the escalation of Frances and Sebastian's relationship from friendship to romance. While it didn't feel totally out of place given the authentic friendship developed between the two, I can't help but wish it was exclusively a friendship story.

I would highly recommend The Prince and the Dressmaker to anyone looking for a fun and lighthearted romp to spend an hour or two reading.
