This was a fast, engaging read. The tension started high right from the end of the previous book and then never came back down. I didn't have any problems with Kiva's emotional pity party -- I've been there myself over less, and I feel like it emphasized her focus 'to do' and her sense of responsibility to persevere in spite of it.

I do wish the gaslighting aspects of the way Jaren treated her that triggered Kiva's self- blame and started a negative behavior spiral wasn't healed/ hand-waved away with "Well, did you do these things? No. Why would I hate you then?" Because those are literally the words that came out of your mouth, you heel.

All said, I continue to love Noni's themes of found family, which pop up across her many series and am happy with where this one landed.
