Heavy: An American Memoir
by Kiese Laymon
This is probably the most apt title of a memoir ever written. It was indeed heavy reading, Laymon's personal essays written in a sort of epistolary way to his mother. Eye opening and heartbreaking with themes of addiction and family bonds, as well as the ever present racism that shaped Kiese's life. I found it profoundly moving and sad.
