Pride and Papercuts by Staci Hart
5.0

I’ve wanted to read this author for a long time. And this one was coming out at a time I thought I could fit it in, not to mention the storyline especially grabbed me just from the synopsis. I always love a good retelling. Now while I haven’t actually read the original Pride and Prejudice, I have seen both movies. So I was able to catch all the matching bits of this story. And I can tell you that I think the author did such a wonderful job of retelling this as a modern story! I loved the banter, the whole bookstore vibe, and of course all the characters were so vividly described and written that I fell into the whole world.

One reason I’ve only read one Austen novel though, Sense and Sensibility, is partly because of how descriptive and verbose Austen’s writing is For me, this book was a little like that. So while I will give it a 5 star rating on any other site, here on my own blog, I dropped the rating to a 4.5 because I was skipping over quite a bit to just get to the point. I know that the author definitely had beautiful writing, I just also know that sometimes I just need the actual story after a while. Also, I know it is an Austen retelling, but I missed more of the steamy scenes that I like in my romances. My only other complaint is a bit of a shallow one. It’s the cover. I love everything about it EXCEPT the blank faces. The blank faces are creepy to me. It could be because I just watched a movie where there were really scary scenes with people with blank faces though.

Finally let me just say that I really did enjoy this, and now want to not only go back and read the other books by this author that I’ve missed in this series, but I will continue to add her new books to my TBR as well!
