The Ones We're Meant to Find
by Joan He
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 4 stars
The ones we’re meant to find is a futuristic sci-fi thriller about two separated sisters trying to find their way back to each other.
The first thing that grabbed my attention when reading this book was the writing. It was written in a very vivid way. The book delivers its message without holding back. The emotions I got while reading where never ending, from a bit of confusion sometimes, to heartbreak and joy.
I loved both the sisters, and how different they are. Kasey is very witty and smart and wants out find out what happened to her sister. Cee is very determined. Alone on an island without anyone, she is very determined to build to boat to go out and find Kasey. The bond between the sisters is strong and beautiful to read.
The way the book switches between the POV’s of both sisters really gives you an insight in both of their minds. I also enjoyed the relationships the sisters had with the other characters, like Hero, U-me and Act.
The dystopian world the story takes place is very intense and the politics and science mentioned can get a little confusing. But because it’s confusing, it makes the created world more real.
The twists and unexpected terns were a bit surprising, but not as much as other books I’ve read. A lot of easter eggs and hints were giving throughout the book. The points that I didn’t really get when reading all came together when the twists were clear. I liked that you could’ve guessed what happened.
Overall, I really liked the story and the message it brings. The open ending was something different from other books, but it felt like the perfect ending for this one.
