This graphic novel should be on all the best of the best lists. It is simply amazing. Barbara (and don’t you dare carll her Barbie) is a giant killer. While everyone else is exploring being a motivational speaker, an accountant, etc. Barbara knows that she is a giant killer. She has traps set on the beach, she carries her trusty hammer of mass destruction, and she is always on the lookout for a giant invasion.

What is realy go on is a tough homelife. If you have read A Monster Calls you will automatically understand what is going on that is not quite revealed to the reader. This book is all about struggle, and accepting things you don’t want to accept. It’s about life's downs, protecting yourself, and then rising back up again.

This story is masterfully told through words and illustrations. The way the illustrator draws Barbara. She is usually seen with some type of animal ears: bunny, bear, etc. Plus the big glasses. She is a nerd. A D&D nerd of destruction. The giants look fearsome and strong. The illustrator could have easily gone goofy, or World of Warcraft, style, and instead our giant looks like a cross between Ultron and Darkness (from Legend). He has that fierceness that is strength and brooding, but a heart that is there as well.

This book has since been made into a movie. I plan on watching it next, I just hope it is at least a 10th as powerful as this novel.
