Unfortunately the many, many unfavorable reviews are correct. I tried giving this a chance as I didn't mind the narration at first but, my God, what's the point of this novel? One too many pages of Art complaining about the woes of his personal life with very little horror elements thrown in. This should not be considered a horror novel. What's the horror? The vague descriptions of vampire-ism? Is he even a vampire, truly? Is Mercy? Who is Mercy?

This is an interesting character study, and if this had been marketed as such maybe I would've gone into this with a better mindset. I truly think this novel is a waste of time?!
