In Search of April Raintree - Critical Edition by Beatrice Culleton Mosionier, Cheryl Suzack, Beatrice Culleton

This is a book I've meant to read for a long time since, even though it's been in publication way before I was in school, I never had/got to study it. I am so glad I've read it now! Though it is fictionalized, it is based one experiences the author had herself as a Métis girl and woman growing up in the foster system. Warning to the reader: is is heartbreaking, there is neglect and abuse and substance abuse and partner abuse and violence and more. But it is an important book to read for those of us outside of that experience so we can understand what has and possibly does still happen to Indigenous and Metis children growing up in systemic racism, poverty, etc.
