On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous
by Ocean Vuong
"I miss you more than I remember you"
This book had gorgeous scenes and imagery, despite being graphic portrayals of death, war, intergenerational trauma, racism, queerness, addiction, and death.
While reading, all I could think of was how the brain reacts to trauma. Where following a traumatic incident, your brain protects you by withholding memories, creating non-linear moments, and returning memories to you fragmented, segmented, or in bodily experiences.
This book felt like an experiment in testimony and memory.
