Stalking Jack The Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco is such a fantastic story. It is the type of book that has you excited from the very first page until long after you have finished the last page. It is the first book in the Stalking Jack the Ripper series, and I hope this is one long series, because I can already tell I am never going to get enough of these books. (and curse me and my researching ways...I just discovered from goodreads that the 4th book will be in the final book in the series, and now that I have read books 2 and 3 I am mourning that fact!)
Stalking Jack The Ripper, we meet our heroine, Audrey Rose. I really liked Audrey. She is a strong young lady, and I could totally relate to some of her eccentricities. I get what it is like to truly enjoy something that most people just don't get. Audrey loves working with her uncle in his lab, in a time where it was unheard of for women to work on cadavers and dissections and some of the more grotesque sciences, Audrey ate it all up! I really enjoyed her character as well as the host of other characters we meet in Stalking Jack The Ripper, like her uncle, the detective, her brother Nathaniel, and her uncle's apprentice, Thomas. I thought the whole cast of characters was great!
And I loved that the subject of the first mystery was the infamous Jack the Ripper. I love books surrounding Jack the Ripper because most of us are already at least a little familiar with his tale. Plus, I love a London setting. I won't say it was the most surprising uncovering of the killer ever, but I don't care one iota. Because I thoroughly enjoyed every single moment of this book. I really and truly loved it. I have read it two times now (which is a lot for a murder mystery, since I already knew all the twists and turns when I picked it up the second time) and I enjoyed it every bit as much the second go around as I did the first time. Which says a lot about the quality of writing and story telling in Stalking Jack The Ripper. If you have not yet read this book or this series, it is one you do not want to miss out on!
