I’ve never actually regretted reading a book before. This was a brutal experience.

This book felt like one pretentious run-on sentence. There was no plot or character development, so I’m not really sure what I just spent a couple hundred pages reading. Sadly, the whole thing felt terribly depressing to me without any sort of resolution, growth, or silver lining. The only character I liked was Lorraine, who was barely present in the second half of the book. I’d really expected to like Rooney’s writing after all I’d heard, so I just may not have been in the right mood for this one tonight.
