Fruits Basket, Vol. 1
by Natsuki Takaya
Fruits Basket I believe was the first Shojo anime I ever watched when I was younger. So I wasn't sure how it would hold up obviously years and years later.
Glad to say it's still pretty damn fun.
You have our main lead Tohru and she basically starts living with 3 guys who are part of the Chinese Zodiac. What I mean by that is if they get hugged by the opposite sex or touched they become the actual creature. So Kyo is a loud mouth, orange haired guy and he transforms into the cat. He has a huge rivalry with Yuki who can turn into a cat.
The series is a slice of life comedy with hints of romance at the start. It really works because of the intriguing set up and plot but the characters are what really shines. Each feels unique and fun to read, and you're not sure exactly who to root for since they all have positives and negatives.
Overall this first volume is great, with Tohru learning to live with the boys. Will it work though? We'll have to find out and see!
