the world is a weird and wonderful place. why must we try and explain it all away? for our personal satisfaction?
can see why so many people loved this book so completely and utterly.
for me it was a little to whimsical and unexplained to really work perfectly for me but it was still a fun read.
this book is defiantly all about the message: don’t judge before you know!
which is great and a message that should be taken more literal by most people alive right now.
and i do love the mixture of characters and their specific characteristics, it was unique and very well done. it had the right amount of strange and magical but still realistic and relatable.
and some of the things -many of the things said!- in this books where spot on for… well life in general.
he couldn’t believe it was only wednesday.
and it was made worse when he realized it was actually tuesday.
this quote happens very early on in chapter two and it shows the tone of the book perfectly.
this kind of dry humor that isn’t even necessary supposed to be funny but if you can relate to what’s being said you are entertained by it.
and that certainly keeps up throughout the entire book.
i loved linus as a character.
his need to help and believe his job is doing good and he’s helping children that need his help was great.
also seeing him find his voice was very well done.
i already mentioned that i liked how this book pointed out realistic messages that shouldn’t be ignored as often as they are and also shows that sometimes small changes -speaking out or pointing out wrong thoughts- can help bring change.
i also really liked how the author points out that humans really like to track things and put them into specific boxes even if they (we) don’t have any right to do that other then feeling entitled to do so.
my line is far older than rules of men. just because you have decided that all magical beings need to be tagged in the wild for tracking doesn’t give you the right to question me or my legal status.
this quote sums up why to many people and how they think and what they believe is their given right -simply because the believe they have those rights to lord over others.
just because you don’t experience prejudice in your everyday doesn’t stop it from existing for the rest of us.
i also loved that one of the biggest message was
i refuse to believe that a persons path is set in stone. a person is more than where they come from.
which is not only beautifully said but also very true.
i also really like that the book didn’t shy away from showing that characters made mistakes and where misguided or needed to learn.
lucy wasn’t who you expected him to be, which means you already decided in your head what he was. how can we fight prejudice if we do nothing to change it? if we allow it to fester, what’s the point?
it’s a beautiful book and i am so happy that not only so many people read it but loved it.
and i wish the whimsical style would work a bit better for me because the rest of the book was great.
but i would have just loved a little more of an explanation on all the magical happenings, how the world came to be as it was in the book. personal preferences.
as i said. the book was still great. and if you are also one of the few people left that hasn’t already read this?
highly recommend it.
just expect unexplained moments and whimsical situations and a lot of truth and realism thrown together
