For about half the book, *You Killed Me First* was a slow burn, and I kept wondering, *When is this going to hit John Marrs' level of crazy?* Don’t get me wrong—I was enjoying it—but it hadn’t yet reached that *twisty and diabolical* place I expect from him.
Then, the first twist happened, and I thought, *Hmm, okay… not bad, but not mind-blowing.* The second twist? I had guessed it, so I was feeling pretty pleased with myself, but again, it didn’t quite hit hard enough.
At that point, I had about 100 pages left and was wondering, What more could possibly happen? And then—BAM!—Marrs threw me off a cliff. Twist after twist after twist, my head was spinning. By the time I reached the ending, I felt like I had just sprinted to the finish line—out of breath, adrenaline pumping, shocked.
It was truly diabolical with a capital D. I loved it SO much!
