The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
by Sherman Alexie
This is a book that has often been recommended for years but I never bothered to read it until now. I was not disappointed. The book paints such a detailed picture about how various identities shift and change, and how we decide who we are. The main character is likeable but flawed and easy to root for as we watch him go from a bullied kid on his reservation to a celebrated student at a neighboring white high school and how he struggles to maintain his identity through it. I enjoyed it so much that I read it in one sitting.
