Note: You definitely should not read this novella until you've read the rest of the books. It flashes back to some major spoilers in the series overall and I would just avoid it until you've read all four books.
3.5/5 stars
General Description: A coastal town in Maine is facing a situation where someone the Naturals rescued years ago may hurt themselves. Cassie and Lia head to Maine to speak with this person and discover a deeper mystery they don't have much time to solve. Can the Naturals, even when apart, solve the case?
The good:
- I did find the mystery clever, the call backs to past books were nice.
- The flashbacks were nice to see not just a focus on the mystery but on the lives of the naturals we love so much.
- This plot twist I could actually get behind.
The loss of a star and a half:
- This could have been a full length novel. I felt teased out of two main topics: first, the live of the original naturals and second, what these new naturals could look like. I just felt like this was a taster to see if the audience wanted more and I want more! It just didn't feel like enough, especially after not being fully satisfied with how the big mystery from the main series wrapped up.
Overall: If you've read the other four books and could be happy with that ending, maybe don't pick this up. It just felt like a giant tease I almost wish didn't exist but at the same time I wish was longer.
