The DUFF: Designated Ugly Fat Friend
by Kody Keplinger
(August 2015 saw the movie. They definitely toned down what I didn't like about the book's sex and alcohol drinking. They even made it more funnier.)

Cute. A good teen angst, family drama and high school drama with a coming-of-age story. Liked the main character Bianca. Lots of sex stuff and language of a sailor's, so definitely a mature "new adult" audience for this. I just hope the movie tones that down just a small notch because it seemed like all the characters were really really sexually hormonal. I have seen commercials for the movie and it had me curious, especially because I've never heard of the slang DUFF. The word is offensive but it ended with a positive spin to that...
“Calling Vikki a slut or a whore was just like calling someone the Duff. It was insulting and hurtful, and it was one of those titles that just fed off of an inner fear every girl must have from time to time. Slut, bitch, prude, tease, ditz. They were all the same. Every girl felt like one of these sexist labels described her at some point. So, maybe, every girl felt like the Duff, too?”
The book ended up being a quick and easy mature adult book to read. I did like Kody's writing and the story did almost make me teary eyed. It was a little realistic and some high school nostalgia, even with the happily ever after fantasy ending.
