frasersimons 's review for:
Brickmakers
by Selva Almada
I loved the prose work, the setting, and the concepts of the characters. It is viscerally rendered. It is brutal but it makes sense for the story and themes. It does, however, even with a small page count, become far too cyclical. It feels like the same plot beats and a very predictable plot and, though fitting, also a foregone conclusion for the finale.
3.5 rounded up, barely. On the fence.
