Like the previous book, it starts out a bit slow. However, it picked up a lot faster and the plot kept me interested. I ended up reading it in one sitting. I absolutely loved the SOC characters that we get to see.
I am so surprised with the way the Darkling was handled. I expected him to have a bigger role once resurrected. I love being surprised, but I was curious as to why he decided this ending. I had a special edition with Bardugo's handwritten notes one of his chapter POVs and I believe she explains it well. He no longer has the same power against others in the newer, modern world.
Additionally, the ending was pretty well done, but unexpected. I do think it was pretty well wrapped up, and would have been a great ending to the entire Grishaverse. But with another surprise twist at the end, I would expect one more book to be pumped out! I can't wait to see. This world has grown with these books as well as Bardugo's writing, and if this is the end of the series, it is a worthy conclusion.
