The Way of All Flesh by Ambrose Parry
4.0

lovely historical medical fiction with a side of crime/mystery plot.
do not go into this book expecting its main part to be about murder and mayhem!
it’s there bit the main parts of the book are the medical/doctor moments and what goes along with that.

it’s a very descriptive book in medical practices of the time, so if you are sensitive to descriptions of pretty brutal medical practices? this book isn’t for you.

i didn’t mind those at all, found them very fascinating actually.

i liked the historical aspects and while the beginning was a bit slow -since i was expecting the crime and murder elements to be the main plot, which isn’t the case the medicine is the main plot the crime and murder are the side plot that goes alongside the medical mysteries.

i liked the side characters more for the most parts of the book than will and sarah.
both will and sarah had this specific self importance about them that just didn’t sit well with me for a good amount throughout the book.
i don’t think it’s something to be proud of to notice women as humans -in wills case- or the understand that being female means being seen as something worth less - in sarah’s case.
both had their arrogance and moments of thinking themselves better then others around them in some way and believing the other to be arrogant for something they done or said to the other.

and while i understand their behavior it didn’t work too well for me.
but thankfully it got better once they actually started to work together to solve the mysteries going on around them.

i do have to say that the murder mystery aspect of the book wasn’t super well done. it’s very clear who done it and it’s also pretty easy to see why the person done it.

i did however love how it all was solved and the ending was very well done.

so i am a bit mixed on the book over all.

some sections where fantastic and i loved the historical medical moments
i really liked the dr and his household.

but it took me a good while to get used to both sarah and will and want to read about them.

overall it’s well done and had potential and i will continue on and i am sure reread this book, now knowing better what to expect going into it.
