"The aurora danced above us both nights, green and blue and white undulating together, a cold ocean up there in the sky, and even that he barely glanced at."
This book made me feel like I was right there with Emily throughout her field work, discovering fae and listening to her pretend she has no emotions.
"You are not so terrible, Em. You merely need friends who are dragons like you."
Emily is soooooo autistic like SOOO autistic and I love her for it. In the beginning she is super stoic and focused on her studies. But as the book progresses she discovers friends and found family and starts to understand her feelings better.
"He’s prettier when he’s asleep, eh? You don’t notice that big mouth of his."
WENDELL. My god he is sexy. I love how clear he is with Emily about how much he loves her while still being super chill about it and their constant back and forth is UGHHHH. So witty and charismatic from both of them.
"I half listened in astonishment. I say half, because I was mostly just watching you, observing the way your mind clicks and whirrs like some fantastical clock"
Their relationship is soooooo. She understands him and he understands her and they are so different but so well matched and he loves her mind.. ;;
I love them.
"I have grown rather used to pining, so it won’t put me out to keep at it, I suppose.”
LIKE?! ^^
Bring back pining please.
""I will depart these shores before the winter is out,” I said. “Wouldn’t it be best for you to find a fjolskylda among the Ljoslanders?”
“It doesn’t matter where you are,” he said simply."
Now I'm gonna cry because POE?! I LOVE HIM SO MUCH. Little fae who bakes her fresh bread every day and trusts her like family even though he is a frightened little brownie. I think Poe is my favourite character actually. ♡
I loved this book so much. The atmosphere and scene setting was perfectly executed and I loved the slow building of relationships between characters.
