The Last Magician
by Lisa Maxwell
I find this book slightly forgettable. I remember reading it and the plot, but nothing much. I picked it up because my other books were on hold at the library and this one was up for grabs. I decided to give it a chance, and I certainly don't regret it, but I don't love the series.
It certainly has an interesting plot. The time travel caught my attention. However, I did have some issues with some of the plot points. I didn't enjoy how there was a forced kiss at the beginning and then the characters become love interests. As a whole, I'm not a fan of that trope. It is overdone and allows for no consent, and consent is very important to me. I know consent wasn't as important decades/a century ago, but I don't feel like we should slip back into bad habits for the story. We should avoid it and tell a good story without old cliches.
Other than that, I think I'd give the other books in this series a chance because it was an interesting plot, and I would like to know more about it. It isn't great, but it did entertain me when I was waiting for books I was very excited for.
