Keeping the Moon
by Sarah Dessen
This is a very sweet book for younger teens. The main character is a 15 year old girl who doesn't quite realize that everyone has a purpose and you should never let people make you feel worthless.
I've come to really love Dessen's writing in the past year since I picked up the first book I'd read by her. There is always some deeper truth to learn wrapped up in adventure or romance or both. In fact, the romance was so very secondary in this book it was almost not there at all, and yet I truly believe that fans of contemporary romance will still absolutely love this book.
There is something about realizing that you may not be conventionally beautiful, but you still ARE beautiful. I think this is something that most teen girls really need to learn and see for themselves. We need to lift our girls up and help them see how amazing they are no matter what they look like.
