The Road to Jonestown: Jim Jones and Peoples Temple
by Jeff Guinn
dark
informative
slow-paced
This book is on the reading list for The Last Podcast On The Left (Episodes 300-304). This book is about Jim Jones, a minister of his own design. One of the most notable things from his early ministry days is that his congregation was racially integrated in a time when that was far from the norm. He became involved in politics, and moved his congregation from Indiana to California. Jim Jones participated in all sorts of activities, including fake faith healing, taking assets from his congregants, cheating on his wife, using drugs, and a whole host of other things. He eventually opened up a colony in South America, where congregants lived in unbelievable conditions and ultimately committed mass suicide. This book was well researched and very informative. I found it engaging all the way through. I learned so much about Jim Jones and the People's Temple from this book. I would highly recommend it.
