a fantasy novel that feels more akin to a wwi love affair, i think this is one of the more uniquely endearing books i have ever read.

however, the romance is the pulse of this story, and while i was very on board with the slow burn rivals corresponding through anonymous letters half of this novel… anything after that mostly felt rushed to me. therefore, it kind of lost my interest.

BUT it was still a very fun read! i loooove rebecca ross’ writing!! (the pining/yearning/straight up pain in book 2 is about to be crazy)
